In addition to the formal AGM proceedings, Vince Galvin of Statistics New Zealand will be presenting an update on the 2018 Census file.

On April 29 Statistics NZ announced that the 2018 Census file would be released on September 23 and outlined some expectations about the quality of the file that would be released. This talk will summarise this material and explain the methods used to create the file. If you use Census data and want to understand more about it, then this will be an important session for you!

Vince Galvin is Chief Methodologist at Statistics NZ. He has had extensive experience of Official Statistics, two spells in the Australian system, one spell in the British system and involvement in a wide range of international collaboration activities adding to his over 30 years working in the New Zealand system.

His work has encompassed Environmental, Social and Economic measurement. He has been on a number of cross agency advisory boards advising on a diverse range of measurement issues. Preparing the 2018 Census file has been a major focus for the Statistical Methods group inside Stats NZ for the last year.

Vince is an organiser of the Wellington Data Analytics Forum and has served as a board member of the Research Association of New Zealand.
