The Fellows Panel will follow immediately after the AGM.

What is it?  What can you expect?

  • Panel of 4 Fellows (Duncan Stuart, Jesvier Kaur, Murray Campbell, Spencer Willis) plus a Moderator (Horst Feldhaeuser)
  • Forum and panel discussion with senior thought leaders to discuss hot topics/challenges/opportunities/changes in our industry
  • Each Fellow will have 5 minutes to speak uninterrupted and then discussion will be open to the floor
Attendees can also send topics in beforehand and/or ask during the session.

As a starter, here are topics our Fellows are passionate about:

  • How do we continue to show value?  Vs. other competitors or new entrants into the research space selling research methods branded as 'not research', media, Social Media, etc.
  • The face of our industry is changing - fewer large companies and more independents and mid-sized.  Some of our best have left, retired or gone client side.  Who is doing the training and mentoring of the next generation of researchers?
  • Limits to ways NZ industry practices/delivers research. Means non-research consultancies are doing research as part of a bigger offering that includes strategy, innovation, design-thinking, etc. Yet we’re uniquely placed to deliver this ourselves.
  • Failure of our industry to inspire younger and older practitioners so they’re leaving to more interesting / challenging offerings: client-side, agencies, service design, etc. Yet we are closest to the consumer/customer than anyone else.
  • Our industry’s attachment to research products versus research services. Means many research companies don’t think beyond the report/presentation they deliver. Yet we’re often more trusted/informed than other suppliers and again uniquely placed to forge ongoing partnerships.
  • Where do we see MR in the next 5-10 years?  How will the local and global landscape change?
